Our History

 The Ukrainian word “yednist” means “unity.”

The premise in choosing this powerful word to represent this school is to unite those with a common motivation through PASSION, AMBITION, and BELIEF:

  • the passion to preserve the heart of our Ukrainian Canadian culture through the art of dance;
  • the ambition to grow – individually and as a valuable member of the group – into competent, confident young dancers;
  • the belief that every dancer can be inspired to succeed within a positive, exciting, and encouraging atmosphere.

Our small class sizes mean greater opportunity for individualized instruction resulting in a better, more enjoyable dance experience.

Yednist School of Ukrainian Dance prides itself in offering award-winning instructors and guest instructors who continually upgrade their skills and abilities by participating in professional development curricula, which in turn ensures that students receive the highest quality and most up-to-date instruction available.

A strong foundation in the fundamentals of Ukrainian dance is emphasized early on, which helps young dancers to grow and strengthen their skills as they progress into higher levels of dance.

The method of delivery of instruction is based on positive encouragement, striving to maintain a fun atmosphere to ensure that each dancer is engaged and eager to participate.

Most importantly, we guarantee a friendly, welcoming, and respectful environment for all parents and dancers!

Yednist School of Ukrainian Dance strongly believes in the spirit of kinship and community-mindedness.  The 2023-2024 dance year saw the dancers participating in a variety of events:

  • Brandon Festival of the Arts in February (Brandon, MB)
  • Yorkton Kalyna Ukrainian Dance Competition in April (Yorkton, SK)
  • Brandon Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Competition in May (Brandon, MB)
  • Traveller’s Day parade in June (Brandon, MB)
  • Westman Multicultural Festival in July (Brandon, MB)
  • Minnedosa FunFest parade in August (Minnedosa, MB)
  • Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival Amateur Talent Competitions in August (Dauphin, MB)

Yednist School of Ukrainian Dance offers an affordable enrolment fee which includes costume rental, instruction and choreography.

Dancers of all ages are welcome.  An adult dance group is available for those who are interested in learning new skills, or broadening their current abilities – all in a fun and entertaining environment!

We welcome all into our dance family, whether you are Ukrainian or not.  In fact, we consider it an honour to share our culture and traditions with others as we feel it benefits our multicultural community to be able to come together to have a better understanding of other cultures and traditions.
